Zagreb Food

This will be a little shorter food post as I was only there for 1.5 days. When I arrived in town from the bus station I planned to go to Burek Dolac and get lunch from there to compare to previous ones, they serve it a bit differently to what I had before. But as I mentioned they were closed on Sunday, so that plan was screwed.

I had also planned to check out an restaurant called Capuciner while there so this is where I went for lunch, it was about 500m from my accommodation so super easy.

I had their Pljukanci (pronounced ple-oo-kantsi) Truffle which is Pljukanci in cream with truffles & white sauce. Wow was it tasty. I'm planning to try and make some Pljukanci now I'm back home.

Update: did make some back at home and it came out pretty well, pleased.

Dinner I had a few options, one place is closed on Mondays so that meant if I wanted to go there I had to go on the Sunday evening. I had looked at the menu earlier and decided to go to Konoba Didov San. I had the pork loin in hunter's sauce with baked potatoes

Was chilly and I could only get a seat outside so they gave me a blanket to use to keep warm

On my full day before I headed up to Lotrščak Tower, I went to Vincek Slastičarnica which is a famous patisserie. I had their Vincek Slastičarnica kremšnita, wow was it nice. Would like to try make it back at home, needs quite a few ingredients I don't have so will see if/when I maybe try it.

Update: on Christmas Day I made some. close enough version of it. Very nice. pleased.

Later at about 1:15pm I thought let me try go back to Burek Dolac for lunch, it was open but they had sold out of the meat burek and only had cheese left, damn it. I wasn't keen on another cheese one (not that it wasn't nice just wasn't what I felt like). So looked around and decided to have lunch at Bistro Dolac.

Pharmacy I went to was on the bottom left of the white building to the left of the white awning.

That just left a place to find for my final dinner in Zagreb. I had thought of maybe going to Stari Fijaker but after speaking to the lady at my reception she said that a place called Ficlek was more traditional food from the area so I went there instead, was very close as well (Stari Fijaker was a decent walk away). Ficlek was fully booked until after 9pm (other people came to try get a table) but as I was only 1 person I could sit at the bar counter, which was perfectly fine for me. I had the Beef schnitzels in a red wine sauce with bread roulade. Was very tasty.

After dinner it was about 8pm and I felt like a treat so I decided to go back to Vincek for their famous Vincek torta. Sadly they had sold out of that so I had to choose something else, not an easy choice when you see all the options in the video above. I had a cake which was kinda like Snickers they said.
